The Kenya Gold Summit & Expo is a national mining-industry platform conceived and initiated by the Kenya Chamber of Mines (KCM). The 2026 Western Kenya Edition is co-convened with the Kakamega County Investment and Development Agency (KCIDA), with strategic participation from the National Government, industry and investment-facilitation partners.
The Summit runs from 2 to 4 December 2026 at the Kakamega Golf Hotel, Kakamega County. It brings together miners, investors, regulators, communities and solution providers in an action-oriented programme of plenary dialogue, solution sessions, technology demonstrations, the Gold Expo, business networking, a Welcome Dinner and field visits to live mining and processing sites.
The Summit is built to identify and unlock the practical constraints holding back formalisation, responsible mining, investment, enterprise development and market access across the gold value chain.
Western Kenya is one of the country's key gold-producing regions, with extensive artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) alongside renewed exploration and emerging large-scale mining (LSM). Kakamega sits at the centre of this gold economy.
• 15,000+ artisanal and small-scale miners in Kakamega (sector estimate). • 300+ mining shafts across the county, about 250 of them in Ikolomani. • Thousands of households whose livelihoods depend on ASM.
Yet the sector remains held back by informality, low productivity, inadequate technology, safety and environmental risks, limited access to finance, inefficient processing and weak links to formal markets. Miners and investors also navigate complex licensing, permitting, land and environmental requirements. The Summit is built to change that. It aims to:
1. Streamline the regulatory and investment pathway for gold mining.
2. Help artisanal miners become safer, better organised and bankable.
3. Build practical models for ASM–LSM coexistence and shared value.
4. Connect credible projects to investors, financiers, buyers and refiners.
Our goal: to support the transformation of Western Kenya's gold economy into a formal, safe, productive, environmentally responsible and investable sector.
The Summit is designed around high-impact themes that drive actionable change and inclusive growth:
Unlock Investment & Streamline Regulation
Simpler licensing, permitting and institutional processes, with stronger coordination for a transparent, predictable investment environment.
Transform ASM Enterprises
Helping artisanal and small-scale miners become safer, better organised and commercially viable through formalisation, finance, technology, skills and formal markets.
Foster ASM–LSM Coexistence
Practical approaches to mineral rights, land access, community engagement, local procurement and shared value between artisanal and large-scale miners.
Advance Responsible & Inclusive Mining
Stronger health and safety, cleaner processing and environmental management, more participation by women and youth, and protection of children in mining communities.
Build Gold Markets, Investment & Value Addition
Connecting miners and projects to finance, formal trading, assaying, processing, refining and industrial opportunities.
The Kenya Gold Summit Western Edition will be a three-day event offering interactive and informative programming:
